From the desk of Jeff Nute, Landaff Road Agent
These are extraordinary times that we are enduring! We are very aware that our gravel roads are a mess! But, be assured, ALL of our neighboring towns are dealing with the exact same thing. This is a difficult situation for us to correct because hauling stone or gravel to bind up the soup usually creates even more damage than we repair! We were fortunate that temperatures were a little colder at the beginning of the week and we were able to address some of the issues before the relentless rain and showers really softened the gravel. Even some of the areas that we were able to address then have since become issues, as well.
I offer a few tips for those that live on or have to travel across gravel roads... Please limit your trips as much as possible, contact your fuel company and ask them to hold off on delivering until the roads freeze up if you have enough fuel to get by, make every attempt to stay near the center of the road (the edges are exceptionally soft), and keep a positive forward momentum through the mud because you will likely get stuck if you slow too much or stop.
Colder temperatures are forecast for the near future, and I will do my best to get around to grade the rutted areas before they freeze solid. Long range looks like another warming trend, but we'll take one step at a time!
Thank you for your patience and understanding! Isincerely wish all a safe and happy New Year!
Jeff
