I joined the National Guard in the summer of 1989 as I was a female with only a GED and not a Highschool diploma and could not join the regular Army at that time. After my 6 months of training in signal communication repair I became "prior service" and only had to wait until the Army would take in prior service people after the massive downsize of 1992. So I went Active Army in 1993. I was in basic training when the Berlin wall went down though I did not know it had happen for a couple of weeks and was in my training school when Panama happened. I was kicked out of the USArmy in 2003 because of a medical disability (bad knees) I got while being in the army. I was not deployed to any combat area, though some of my troops were and one did die on deployment to Iraq after I was out of the Army.
I write this so you have some background to judge what I am writing. The United States does not have the greatest fighting force in history. We have won exactly two military adventures since WWII. Grenada and Panama. We did not win the Korean war but I will say that President Truman did not want a win he wanted a stale mate. People can argue if he was right or wrong but it was mission done according to the political parameters at the time. We lost the war in Viet Nam despite all of the battles won. The problems were geo-political. Was it considered a loss by the powers that be or draw. But as a war it was a loss. All of Viet Nam became Communist. We lost Iran under Carter though that was geo-political until Eagle One hostage rescue mission crashed in the desert so that was a loss.
Iraq war I under GWB in 1991. We spent over 9 months moving everything into position and we beat and military that was spent after 8 years of war against Iran. A devastated Economy and we left Saddam Hussien in charge of Iraq. Gosh we saved Kuwait and that helped the USA in what way. Next the USA military goes into the former Yugoslavia with NATO and pisses everyone off in that area and wins nothing again and that area is again a powder keg. Along the way we really piss off the Slavic countries and Russia with are intervention. We are at only 1993-1995. Just to move it along we lost Iraq 2003 Afghanistan was started in 2001. I know I did the "logistic push" of troops when I was still in the Army and nothing was won by the USA in either country after 20 years of war.
Ukraine is a shit show and has nothing to do with the security of the USA or the EU. Russia has not moved it's border toward Europe. NATO has moved it's borders next to Russia. Finland has a border with Russia that is all but closed since Finland is joining NATO. Russia did not closed that border NATO did that. The Black sea in is sort of the equivalent of the Gulf of Mexico to the USA. How would we feel if the Russians sailed military vessels along the Gulf coast? Yet NATO and the US Navy are deliberately provocative sailing military vessels in the Black sea.
Russia does not need to use her nukes to take out foreign governments any more. They have subs and small missles frigates that can setup a 1000 miles in the mid Atlantic Ocean and target any city on the North American seaboard and we have nothing that could stop those missiles. I'm not sure about the Nuke power missal Russia claims it has that can literally in low orbit with unlimited range to any target but I would not discount them not having it.
In a strange way I think it is good that Washington DC and all those Congress Critters might become a target. Perhaps they might not try to piss so many people off.
Ask yourself as an American why we have troops in Syria that have become targets to Iranian proxies as DC puts it. Why do have troops training African generals/ Armies that have committed a military Coup in Niger? Then the Military kicks out the French multi-nationalist/corporations that bought Uranium for well under the global market price? Why is Kenya working as a police force in Haiti under US proxies since the USA name is mud since the Clinton administration?
I know most us citizens are generous to a fault and will help people regardless of race, religion or creed but you need to know what the US government is doing in your name and it is not a good thing. Do a little research yourself. Look at the change of NATO borders since 1991 and Russia's borders during the same time. Did Russia move toward Europe or did Europe move toward Russia?
Russia literally fought off the invasion's of Ghengis Khan, Napoleon and Nazi Germany. The scale of logistics of the US army is simply a nogo. At best we could land ships in Poland and it still another 600-800 miles just to get to the front in Ukraine. Refueling vehicles, supplying food and water, medical service/support it is laughable at best. Ask that military idiot Austin how he will provide logistic support for fighting Russians in Ukraine?
I'm sorry but the rampant stupidity at the elite level of "thinkers" is mind boggling stupid. Why would Russia agree to a cease fire when they are winning. Why would Russia even trust anything out the USA or Nato when we have lied to them for decades?
I had to get this out of my system. I don't claim to be some great strategist or tactical military genius. I was a simple NCO in the Army that read a lot of military history. Saw some great officers and many not so good and was surprised by officers that did not seem to know much military history.
Did you know you can earn a Journalism degree at West point? While I'm still and NCO in thinking I really thought all West point Cadets got degrees in things like Engineering, Mathematics, Military history, Supply chains and logistics. Nope Journalism is a degree you can get at West point. Probably the same at the Naval Academy no wonder they can't drive/sail a boat.
