LAKEPORT>>> A Cobb man charged with attempted murder and torture for the beating of his father was not present at the Lake County Superior Court in Lakeport.
Peter Guerrero, 29, was committed to the Department of State Hospitals, where the defendant remains.
The matter has been continued for a further written update from the Department of State Hospitals for February of 2024.
Earlier this year the defendant was in custody and appeared remotely regarding the report from CONREP.
CONREP (Conditional Release Program) is the Department of State Hospitals statewide system of community based services that treats patients who have been committed for any of the following – not guilty by reason of insanity, incompetent to stand trial, mentally disordered offenders and some parolees who have been released to outpatient status.
The CONREP report recommended the defendant be placed in a locked facility and committed to the Department of State Hospitals.
The defendant has been charged with attempted murder, causing permanent disability, torture, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm (great bodily injury likely) and battery with serious bodily injury.
The charges stem from an incident in March when Clearlake Police Officers were dispatched to Walmart in Clearlake regarding reports of a male assaulting another male with a hammer outside of the garden department.
Upon arrival officers located a victim suffering from injuries consistent with being assaulted by a blunt object. Medical aid was performed by officers until medical personnel arrived at the scene, transporting the victim to Adventist Health emergency room.
The victim was later transferred to a hospital outside of Lake County.
The suspect was positively identified as Peter Guerrero of Cobb and he was taken into custody.
According to the investigation the victim was approaching Walmart and was attacked from behind by the suspect. The suspect hit the victim, resulting in the victim falling to the ground as the suspect continued to strike the victim with a hammer.
The victim is the father of the suspect.
Allegedly the suspect revealed that his intention was to kill his father in public.
