Burglary at Lower Lake High School reported

On Nov. 19, 2023, Deputies responded to Lower Lake High School regarding a possible burglary of items from school vehicles. Deputy Reynolds spoke with a school maintenance worker who said he arrived at the school at around 7:30 AM and saw the chain locking the gate surrounding the maintenance yard had been cut, five maintenance vehicles were tampered with, and several power tools and fuel were stolen. The estimated total loss of tools was valued at over $8,000.

The maintenance worker reviewed surveillance camera footage from the weekend and saw two males enter the maintenance yard at midnight on Nov. 19, 2023, siphon gasoline out of the school maintenance vehicles, and remove tools from the vehicles. The suspects returned two hours later and stole additional tools from the vehicles. The surveillance footage caught the suspects leaving the school in a green Honda Civic with distinct features.

Deputies searched the Clearlake area and, with the assistance of Clearlake Police Department Officers, located the vehicle in Clearlake. Deputies caught up with the driver and determined they were on searchable probation out of Lake County. The driver was suspected of being one of the suspects by Deputy Reynolds, as they were wearing similar clothing as seen in the surveillance video. Per the driver's probation status, Reynolds searched the vehicle.

Reynolds located and recovered several of the stolen tools and items used to siphon fuel.  He then arrested the driver and  drove them to their residence in Clearlake to conduct a further probation search, which resulted in the recovery of approximately $8,700 worth of power tools, hand tools, power tool accessories, and school laptops. The items recovered were positively identified as belonging to the school as they were all engraved with unique identifying information. Lower Lake High School officials confirmed the recovered items were those stolen from the school.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Deputy Reynolds via email at Chase.Reynolds@lakecountyca.gov.

Colusa man held to answer to felony assault charges

A Colusa man who had reportedly shot at transients with an assault rifle in Clearlake Oaks recently appeared at the Lake County Superior Court in Lakeport for his preliminary hearing.

Glenn Michael Prasad, 36, of Colusa, was in custody as the Court ordered the defendant be held to answer to the charges.

The arraignment on an information hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 5, 2023.

Earlier this month defense counsel, Lawrence Larocca, present by remote appearance, requested the defendant be released on his own recognizances ('OR' -allows a defendant to be released from jail without having to post bail with their promise to appear in court and to follow their terms of release).

The defendant remains in custody at the Lake County Jail.

In October the defendant entered a not guilty plea to all charges and he denied the special allegations.

The court relieved Sterling Thayer Jr. as counsel as the defendant retained Mari Titus as his counsel.

The defendant faces charges of an assault with firearm on person and two counts of possessing any assault weapon.

The charges stem from an incident last month when Lake County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Oak's Red & White Store in Clearlake Oaks after a report that a male subject had shot at transients in the vicinity of the market with a rifle.
It was reported that no one was injured. A vehicle description of the shooter was provided by witnesses and deputies successfully located the vehicle at a residence on Shoreview Drive in Clearlake Oaks.

The suspect was located inside the residence.

A search warrant was secured by detectives, which resulted in the discovery of an unregistered AR-style rifle similar to the description witnesses had provided to authorities.

Authorities took Prasad into custody and he was transported to the Lake County Correctional Facility.

The defendant remains in custody with bail set at $260,000.
