"The Pemberton Street Mural was designed by Cambridge artist Whitney Van Praagh in collaboration with Alex Adamo and Kit Collins, with additional artistic contributions from many local residents and Cambridge youth. The mural was funded through the City of Cambridge Participatory Budgeting Process and supported by Cambridge Arts." ( quote from Cambridge Arts calendar, October 2023)
My photos here are from one day when the Pemberton Mural was almost finished ( October 10) and another day soon after its completion ( October 26).
Quotes and links should convey the special qualities of this community mural and show you better photos! The Pemberton Mural Project site on Instagram superbly documents the project's progress, process, and spirit through five intensive weeks.
" We encourage students and interested artists of the community to add their hand to the mural and gain pride and ownership of a space in their community. "(quote from Pemberton Mural Project online)
"Whitney Van Praagh is the mural designer and her assistants, Kit Collins and Alex Adamo – who have experience as muralists, artists, teachers and community organizers – are helping give direction and manage the experience."(quote from Pemberton Mural Project online)
After Completion:
Overall swirling design in greens and blues allowed intricate repeating patterns along the swirls with small detailed portraits of animals and plants throughout.

Pemberton Mural ProjectInstagram: This is a treasure trove of photos, videos, and informative notes that chronicle the mural project from the first week through completion. It gives a sense of the structure, time, attention, and motivation the three artists provided, plus the enthusiastic participation of many kids and adults throughout the sequence of five weeks.
Cambridge Day, Events in Cambridge, Oct. 6, 2023; "Participate by adding final touches, no art skills required, on this colorful mural still in progress that was paid for by Participatory Budgeting, replacing one that had weathered over two decades."
