Three local high school volleyball teams are entering Jim Mora's favorite time of year.
That's right — the playoffs.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent, American Canyon and North Hills Christian each won league tournaments during the past week and have all earned home matches in the North Coast Section playoffs, which begin on Wednesday.
In Division IV play, St. Pat's is a No. 6 seed and will play Wednesday at home at 7 p.m. vs. San Rafael. The Bruins recently defeated St. Mary's on the road to win the Tri-County Athletic League tournament. They are 32-8 and went 7-3 in league play.
"I'm most proud of the connection our team had on Wednesday," Bruins senior Oliva Butcher said over the weekend. "Danny (Danica Pagtakhan), Cierra (Cierra Ray) and Dior (Dior Duru) all played very well together and create a quick offense for us. Our hitters were able to find the open court all night."
The Bruins have been led this year by Ray, Butcher, Himani Bakshi, Duru and Pagtakhan.
Cardinal Newman is the top seed in Division IV.
American Canyon is the No. 7 seed in Division 2 and will play Maria Carrillo at home — also at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves recently played their third five-set match with Justin-Siena, winning this time on the road to take the Vine Valley Athletic League's inaugural tournament. The Wolves are 22-6 this year and finished 10-2 in league play.
The Wolves have been led this year by Nalani Bustos, Isabella Avila, Ava Berry, Giana Guintu, Emily Avila and Sophia Bernabe.
Branson is the top seed in Division 2.
In Division 6 play, North Hills earned a bye and the No. 4 seed. The earliest the Eagles can play is Saturday at home against the winner of San Domenico and Potter Valley's match on Wednesday.
North Hills recently won the Small School Bridge League Tournament championship. The Eagles have been led this year by Alina Paga and Julianne Gonzales.
Vallejo, Jesse Bethel and Benicia High did not make the playoffs this season.
