As many of you know or may not know, since setting up shop at the "old homestead", I've taken a casual gig over the last year with our regional school board.
My work schedule is definitely hit and miss(which is fine with me at this stage), although in the past few weeks, I've managed to work more than usual.
Up to now, much of my work as a teacher was with schools that had relatively larger student populations, with pre-primary to Grade 8 housed in their own school location, while high schools (Grades 9 to 12) were located perhaps across town or certainly in a different area of the community.
Yesterday, I worked in what is referred to here as an "outpost school."
Located in a tiny community rather somewhat distant from any larger communities in the province. It contained pre-primary(age 4) through to high school(Grade 12). Total students in the school - just over 50. Including the Principal, there might have been about 10 to 12 people on staff.
The point of the post is there is no real point at all.
Regardless, of the size of the school(big or tiny), there tends to be a real sense of community within the walls of the facility. No difference yesterday at the school I was at. In fact, there may have been a greater sense of "family and belonging" within the school.
Having never taught in a situation or school, where you may only have four high school students spread across four grade levels, I'm sure there are challenges to be overcome. But, everything appears and seems to work out satisfactorily in the end.
Anyhow, today is finishing up getting ready to head back to Ontario for the "Celebration of Life" for Lynn's mom on Saturday.
