Today is October 2, and as it is more or less the beginning of the month, it squarely places us into the last three months or the remaining quarter of the year.
Which in and of itself doesn't necessarily a whole lot. But it is a stark realization(or it should be) that 75 percent of 2023 is now behind us, giving us three remaining months before we toss our 2023 calendars out in the trash.
So, how have we been doing with all those goals and checklist things we may have been pondering over and writing down in late 2022 or in a hungover daze on New Year's Day?
First off, I will admit that I'm likely the worst person in the history of yearly goals; or lists when it comes to exactly what we're talking about at this exact moment in time.
Oh, I might have thought about it at some point in December or early January, but that would have been the major extent of it...... simply a passing thought. You see, I really feel the need to be part of the "planning goals and such for next year's" game. I just don't want to put much if any effort into it.
But, that's me - I'm sure that's not you at all.
So, given that how are we doing and holding up here?
My guess is that there are some of us(not me) who are laser-focused on both setting yearly goals and striving to fulfill them. They don't let anything(like life and living it) derail them and off they go(not hungover) on January 1, much like a greyhound chasing a fake -rabbit around a dog track.
Conversely, there will be a group of folks who couldn't care less about any of this; think it's a colossal waste of time, and have clicked out of this post and moved on to something else.
I suspect the biggest group is those who fall somewhere in the middle. They're not the laser-focused tribe, nor are they the crowd that doesn't give a flying fu@k about any of this.
So to you guys(the middle bunch of ya) - how are we doing?
And you know what?
Maybe this year HASN'T BEEN the greatest in terms of all those goals and check-off lists. Or perhaps, on the other hand, it HAS BEEN the greatest. Regardless of whether it was a HASN'T BEEN or perhaps a HAS BEEN type of year, why not use this last quarter of the year(well October and November because we all know December is a friggin' write-off) to set up for a far better start for 2024.
If you've found yourself in the HASN'T BEEN group, you're in great company. It might be a slight challenge to start and finish in two months that four-month online course you committed to start in March. But, maybe you can get started at it now and finish it up early in 2024. The point is, don't beat yourself up if things didn't necessarily work out the way you may have thought they would ten months ago. I'm sure there are small or bigger things that you can jump all over the next few months and end 2023 on a positive note.
Remember, life happens and when it does we have to live it and go through it.
Lynn and I didn't have her back in Ontario for the best part of two months after her Mom died on our bingo card at the start of 2023. Life happens. Cut yourself some slack.
Now, if you find yourself in that HAS BEEN group - our hats go off to you. Maybe you still have things you're striving towards this year and that's great - keep at it. If you're at a point where 2023 will finish far greater than you anticipated or planned for - all I can say is WOW. You apparently, don't need much help here, simply keep doing what you're doing.
I will caution with this.
It isn't necessarily the endpoint that is the prize. The prize or the growth is often the journey we take to get to the endpoint. Not the endpoint in and of itself. The endpoint may be the goal. The prize or gift is often the journey to get there.
So, there you go.
We're into the last quarter of 2023. Which is technically true, because - well - I've done the math.
But, come on - December is going to throw a wrench into most of our plans. It always has and just as the sun rises and sets each day, December will show up and start to muck with simply everything.
Technically. we're down to two-thirds of the last quarter of the year.
Good luck with that.
