The Woodland Latin dance community is growing.
The end-of-season free Salsa in the Plaza lessons at Heritage Plaza, located at the intersection of Second and Main Streets, will be held during the upcoming First Friday Art Walk on Nov 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
"We started this free community dance event to provide a free early evening Latin dance party that everyone could attend," organizer Larry Crawford said. "We've gotten great support from the community. Marc Hutt, the president of the Historic Downtown Woodland Group, has supported us with equipment as well as his time and expertise."
What began a few months ago in April has become one of the most fun and best-attended events during the First Friday Art Walks.
"We plan to continue Salsa in the Plaza next year, but to do so, we need a good turnout in order to keep using the Plaza," organizer Cath Posehn said. "So come out and join the Woodland Latin Dancers! Everyone is welcome, from beginners to advanced. No partner is required. Come dance with us, or just come and watch. We will have plenty of chairs!"
Another organizer and instructor, Megan Lachowski, is continuing her Cuban Salsa lessons in November.
These lessons were started in September. They are friendly and fun and have been well-attended. So much so she has decided that in addition to the Level 1 and 2 classes, she will add a Level 3 class followed by social dancing this November.
All classes will be at the Gibson House, located at 512 Gibson Road, Levels 1 & 2 on Wednesdays, Nov. 8, 15, & 29, and Level 3 and Social Dancing on Tuesdays, Nov. 7, 14, & 28.
- Level 1 – Wednesdays 5:30-6:30
- Level 2 – Wednesdays 6:30-7:30
- Level 3 – Tues 5:30-6:30
- Social dancing 6:30-8:00

"I'm excited that these classes are so popular," Lachowski said. "Join us and help us build a vibrant Latin Dance community in Woodland!"
