Waldorf, MD – Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) actively seeks additional community feedback on proposed revisions to its Educational Equity Policy, Policy 1820. The policy, currently available for review on the Board of Education of Charles County's BoardDocs platform, is slated for approval next month. This initiative aims to ensure the policy aligns with the local community's educational goals.
Per the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Code of Maryland Regulations Reporting Requirements (COMAR), local school systems are mandated to review their Educational Equity Policies every three years. This review process aims to guarantee that the policy remains up-to-date and responsive to the evolving needs of the community it serves.
To facilitate this crucial feedback process, CCPS has invited all community members, including staff, students, and parents, to complete a survey that allows them to provide input on the proposed policy changes. It is strongly recommended that survey respondents thoroughly review the proposed revisions before offering their insights. The survey is accessible in English and Spanish, and the deadline for community members to voice their opinions has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31.

Earlier this autumn, CCPS initiated the feedback process by making a survey available to the community in September. However, the initial response to this survey was limited, prompting the school system to reopen it, allowing more stakeholders to share their views and perspectives. The data gathered through these surveys will be crucial in shaping the final policy.
The Board of Education received an update on the survey feedback at its meeting on October 10. The presentation of initial survey findings offers insight into the areas of concern and improvement sought by the community. Community members interested in reviewing this feedback can access the information on the school system's website.
The CCPS Department of Community Engagement and Equity (DCEE) is at the forefront of overseeing the revision process for Policy 1820. The DCEE plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the policy revisions accurately reflect the values and aspirations of the Charles County community, aiming to provide an equitable and inclusive educational experience for all students.
As the approval date for the proposed policy changes approaches, community engagement remains a top priority for Charles County Public Schools. The school system values the input of all stakeholders. It encourages everyone to participate in the survey, helping to shape an Educational Equity Policy that best serves the needs and aspirations of the local community.
Under transparent governance and inclusive decision-making principles, CCPS continues to engage with its community and stakeholders throughout this process.
