Maybe it's just that I'm a New Yorker; born and raised in the New York metropolitan area, but I just can't listen to a sentence uttered by our previous president without shaking my head at the self-evident fact that he is nothing but a two bit hustler, con artist, wannabe Mafia Don. A punk! It just seems so on-its-face self-evident. Even the most slightly informed about the real world and current events can see for themselves that he can barely get through a sentence without telling a bald-faced lie.
This is why I am baffled and mystified by the fact that somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of the country seems to have been hoodwinked by this ignorant buffoon's antics and have signed up for his cult of personality, if one can even consider his unhinged ravings as evidence of a personality at all, rather than a carnival barker's rabble-rousing.
I guess his niece, Mary Trump, whose inheritance he ripped off as he apparently did to most of his relatives, says that he is basically an idiot savant in terms of self-promotion.
Let's just look at some of the salient features of Orange man's ascent to power; how about Rupert Murdoch, who's ruthlessly mercenary way of doing business is that the bottom line is the only line. Any questions of propriety, morality, ethics, decency etc. are nothing more than prissy distractions from the business that was his life; making more money and getting more power. It has never changed from his early days of English tabloids where he would insert pretty topless women into the newspaper to boost circulation. Even though he was disgusted with the ignorant Philistine, Trump (how does one reach his age without ever encountering and mastering the pronunciation of Yosemite, which, in what must have been prepared Teleprompter text, he pronounced yo-Semite). Nevertheless, the ever profit-motivated Murdoch (even though he personally detested the man) recognized the popularity of the MAGA brand and, instead of strangling Trump's infant presidential campaign in the cradle, which he totally could have, and as any responsible human being occupying his high position in the media world would have, instead sold his soul to the devil and promoted every lie the career criminal could come up with. For the ratings!
Let's look at some of the highlights of the man's curriculum vitae; having been shipped off to a military academy by his bizarrely unloving family (who directly caused the death of his older brother, who was meant to be the primary heir, because his passion was to become an airline pilot; a fine and prestigious occupation that most families would be delighted to celebrate. Not in the Trump family, or as it was called before idiot Trump's makeover, Drumpf, who considered his career nothing more than a glorified bus driver, and they so alienated him that he eventually ended up drinking himself to death.
Teetotaler Donald, on the other hand, next in line to his dad's crooked fortune (scamming on every possible urban renewal money available while marking and blowing off potential renters of color, aided by faithfully crooked son Donald)
After The Donald's dubious educational career, his mentor on all things legal, ethical, etc. was none other than Roy Cohn, perhaps the sleaziest and most detestable human being from that whole era; blacklists, red scare, spies under one's bed.
Roy Cohn, a particularly ugly (not just as a common aesthetic viewpoint) human being, was a human caricature of the servile lickspittle to the detestable Joe McCarthy, the cowboy who rode the bucking bronco of anti-Communist hysteria, waving sheaths of blank paper while declaring that he had in his hand the list of the 300 and some odd card-carrying communists currently working in the government.
Cohn, a closeted gay man, apparently felt no compunctions about doing the dirty work of his boss, sometimes vilifying others for what was, at the time, the shameful label of homosexuality. After the fall of McCarthy, who ended up dying a drunken bum, the clever Cohn weaseled his way to the top level of mob affiliated lawyers, helping them evade justice through exhaustive delay tactics and attacking the very strengths of his adversaries.
The fact that Trump is able to carry his Cohn-inspired exploitation of the judicial system into indefinitely delaying any kind of justice for him over his primetime live TV insurrection and treason is not so much an indictment of Trump per se, as it is a sickening feeling that our entire justice system is broken beyond repair when someone can openly and violently (resulting in a half-dozen deaths or so immediately and more later) tried to overthrow our democracy, and can still be at large, free of ankle bracelet, free to promulgate his absolute BS lies, backed up by an amen chorus of a Supreme Court that harbors a disgusting trio of groveling Trump appointees!? Sheesh!
