Jigs and Bigs Fishing Report:8.25.23

Happy Monday! Although this was written up on Friday, I was away for the weekend and haven't had a free moment to post! The fishing is still happening, so let's dive right in!

Jerry got out on Saturday where he fished a MAKB Central division tournament at Quinsigamond Lake where he fished weed lines in 6 to 9 feet of water. Jerry said that when he pre-fished four days prior he caught them on neko rigged worms in multiple colors. Come tournament day he said he couldn't catch them on anything other than a ned rig with orange being the hot color that day. He caught seven largemouth bass for a seventh place finish.

Sunday Jerry fished in the Berkshires where the water temperature that morning was 66 degrees. He landed six largemouth bass on green pumpkin neko rigged worms and black and blue chatterbait. He reported that he found the fish shallower in lily pads. Jerry also caught four crappie in sixteen feet of water on a dropshot green pumpkin soft plastic.

Nelson got out a couple times this week, his first outing was after work one day until dark. He said that he found bass up shallow relating to hard surfaces like rock and concrete. He also caught some off lay downs and docks with his larger bass coming off the docks. Most of the bass were small but I did manage a few better ones. I caught them all on a weightless soft stick bait. They did want anything else.

Nelson's second excursion was to a pond where he said that he has had very good success in the past landing more quality largemouth. For some reason I just can't figure them out this season. I guess that's why it's called fishing and not catching. He said he has been there three times and only caught small bass, albeit a good number of them. This time he caught most of the bass on a 10" ribbon tail worm punched through the thicker weeds and on a weightless soft stick bait on the edges and holes of the weeds. Nelson reported that the water temperatures at both ponds were in the low to mid 70's and that the water is starting to cool off. We should start seeing bass move up into shallow water in the next few weeks to feed up for the fall and winter but if you're not seeing them shallow be sure to hit those deeper weed beds. Good luck out there! Be safe!

Jon got out on the boat once this week at Tim's favorite local Congamond with the Mrs, where the water temperature was in the mid 70s. He caught a smaller largemouth on a natural colored senko and one decent largie on a ned rig with a darker natural color. He said that both were caught 5 to 10 feet off docks.

Ryan the Butcher  went out and to pre fish for a tournament this weekend but his wife and daughter wanted to come join. So not much fishing got done but making beautiful memories with my little one, her first time in the boat at 14 weeks. She loved every second of it. Smile says it all. Better than any fish I coulda caught that day. That's all folks!

Don't forget to check out the latest episode of Jigs & Bigs when it drops tomorrow! Stay safe out there folks, and tight lines!
