An evening of acoustic roots music unfolds at Willits Community Theater on Friday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. with performances by the madcap misfit musician Shovelman and New Orleans singer-songwriter Black Suzie.
As the one-of-a-kind Shovelman, Isaac Frankle wields his lap steel guitar bringing forth sounds of the Mississippi Delta blues blended into an electro-psychedelic flavor. With his bluesy "folktronica" mix, Shovelman has shared the stage with the likes of Primus, Emmylou Harris, Kaki King and Reggae Watts.
For a journey into the depths, Black Suzie offers up enchanting melodies and lyrics that are both clever and heartfelt.
Originally from Philadelphia, Black Suzie honed her songwriting craft in New Orleans before moving to a cabin in the redwoods of Northern California. Influenced by folk, blues, soul and punk, this indie artist invites her listeners into a sound reminiscent of Cat Power and Bjork.
