CONCOW FIRE: A vegetation fire that started Wednesday afternoon in Covelo was described as burning about five acres as of 4:30 p.m. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported shortly after 4 p.m. July 5 that the wildfire had started near Concow and Foothill boulevards. Cal Fire reported that seven engines, two hand crews, two dozers, one AirAttack, two Airtankers, and one helicopter had responded. The number of personnel at scene was reported to be 72, with people responding from Cal Fire, Covelo Fire Protection District, the California National Guard and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

SUSPICIOUS PACKAGES: Caller in the 500 block of South Main Street reported at 9:45 a.m. July 1 receiving suspicious packages. An officer responded and took a report for found property.
DOG IN VEHICLE: Caller at Costco on Airport Park Boulevard reported at 11:54 a.m. July 1 that a dog was left unattended in a vehicle. An officer checked the area but the vehicle was gone.
MAN IN INTERSECTION: Caller at the corner of South State Street and Lewis Lane requested at 2:02 p.m. July 1 that an officer check the welfare of a man standing in the intersection. When an officer checked the area the man was gone.
DEATH: An officer responded to the 300 block of North Main Street at 7:08 p.m. July 1 and took a report of a death.
FIREWORKS: An officer responded to the 200 block of Ford Street at 11:51 p.m. July 1 for a report of fireworks and "contacted residents who will stop for the night."
BURGLARY: Caller in the 900 block of South Oak Street reported a burglary at 1:31 a.m. July 2. An officer responded and arrested a 42-year-old Ukiah man on suspicion of violating his probation and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
RAPE: An officer responded to the 300 block of Peach Street at 4:59 a.m. July 3 for a report of suspicious circumstances and took a report of rape.
STOLEN VEHICLE: An officer responded to the 400 block of South State Street at 3:40 p.m. July 3 for a report of a stolen vehicle and arrested Sandra Madrigal, 45, of Napa, on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving without a license and possession of stolen property. She was booked into Mendocino County Jail.
DEATH: An officer responded to a motel in the 1200 block of South State Street at 9:15 a.m. July 4 and took a report of a death.
FIREWORKS: Multiple callers reported illegal fireworks activity on July 4, including in the 500 block of Ford Street at 9:21 p.m.; near Betty and Marlene streets at 9:46 p.m., on Lockwood Drive at 9:53 p.m., on Thomas Street at 10:08 p.m.
The following were compiled from reports prepared by the Ukiah Police Department regarding calls handled by the Fort Bragg Police Department.
DUI: An officer stopped a vehicle in the 32000 block of Highway 20 at 2:34 a.m. July 1 and arrested Sidney Yanez, 35, of Fort Bragg, on suspicion of driving under the influence. The vehicle was stored and the driver was cited and released.
DUI: An officer stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of North Harbor Drive at 5:15 p.m. July 3 and arrested Amanda Urbina, 41, of Middletown, on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was cited and released.
DUI: An officer stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Cliff Way and Ocean View Drive at 8:31 p.m. July 3 and arrested Mauricio Panameno, 26, of Fort Bragg, on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited and released and the vehicle stored.
Those arrested by law enforcement officers are innocent until proven guilty. People reported as having been arrested may contact the Daily Journal once their case has been concluded so the results can be reported. Those who feel the information is in error should contact the appropriate agency. In the case of those arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, all DUI cases reported by law enforcement agencies are reported by the newspaper.
