A Willits man was arrested on suspicion of 13 felonies after reportedly climbing a tree to escape capture, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the MCSO, deputies responded to the 1900 block of East Hill Road around 6 p.m. June 30 when it was reported that a man was pointing a firearm at a woman and Willits Police Department officers requested that personnel from the California Highway Patrol and MCSO assist with their pursuit of the suspect, identified as Shannon L. Henson, 27, of Willits.
After deputies joined the pursuit of Henson, the suspect's vehicle was "lost in the area of East Hill Road and Eastside Road, and the pursuit was discontinued."
MCSO deputies then reportedly "escorted WPD Officers to an address on East Hill Road where Henson was known to reside" and found his vehicle behind the residence.
After witnesses reported that Henson had fled into the woods, the MCSO deployed K-9 officer Sam, and the dog "tracked Henson through the woods for approximately one hour, (eventually determining that) Henson had circled back and was attempting to get back to his residence."
Henson was then reportedly spotted by MCSO deputies before he hid behind a tree, where he was spotted by the K-9 officer before "peacefully surrendering in lieu of being apprehended by Sam."
Henson was booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public, domestic violence, violating his probation, criminal threats, drawing a firearm on the grounds of a day care, assault with a deadly weapon, child cruelty, illegal possession of both ammunition and of a firearm, stalking, and of evading an officer.
