Large, 'Spotted Salamander' from last year.
So, I learnt about salamanders, newts & efts last year.
I used to call these orange ones salamanders. It appears that they are newts -- in the family of salamanders.
During the spring & early summer I see quite a few of these little orange ones. wondered whether they grow up to be these BIG black ones. Appears NOT. The orange ones are Eastern NEWTs, the babies EFTs. Wow. Did not know that. They are off the salamander family, BUT this big spotted one is NOT a newt. Fancy that.
First one I have seen this year. I make sure I don't step on them.
