With 150 tonnes of pregnancy tests - the equivalent in weight of a large Boeing 787 plane - ending up in landfill every year, fertility brand OVUM has come up with a more positive alternative to these traditionally BPA plastic sticks
With a successful fertility supplement that's trusted by some of the UK and Europe's leading fertility clinics and NHS trusts under its belt, OVUM has now introduced the nation's first 100% recyclable pregnancy test.
Available to buy online, the test's launch follows OVUM co-founder Jenny Wordsworth's own journey to conceive, combined with her passion for sustainability.
Along with her polar explorer co-founder, North Face pro-endurance athlete Jenny set out to create a product that would meet the needs of women trying to conceive while positively impacting the planet.

OVUM's early detection pregnancy tests are sold in packs of four at RRP £19 (£4.75 per test), whereas the leading non-environmentally friendly pregnancy test brand equates to RRP £6.33 per test.
The entire test, its wrapper and the desiccant are fully recyclable.
You just need to put the tests in the prepaid envelope provided and post them to OVUM's recycling partner, Enval.
A QR code linking through to a guided meditation is also provided on every test in case you receive a negative result.
OVUM acknowledges that its tests still introduce new plastic.
As a result, the fertility brand is committed to removing twice as much plastic from the environment than it creates.
It has already been certified 'plastic negative' by rePurpose Global, the world's leading plastic action platform.
Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency), the tests have a sensitivity of 10mIU/ml.
They are among the most sensitive pregnancy tests available in the UK.
Women trying to conceive often test early and regularly, so offering the most accurate but sensitive tests at this price point was a major priority claims OVUM.
"For too long, the woman who is trying to conceive has been ignored, so we're proud to announce the launch of the UK's first and only fully recyclable midstream pregnancy test," says Jenny.
"This launch marks the end of pregnancy tests ending in landfill, and this product is destined to become a best-in-class and a clear disruptor brand to Clearblue."
"This launch is the culmination of 10 months of work, and our team couldn't be prouder of what we have achieved," says OVUM's chief medical officer Dr. Kat Joseph.
"We hold ourselves to the highest standards at OVUM, so securing FDA approval was vital as their performance criteria for the accuracy of early detection tests are stricter than those in the UK.
"We know our customers want to test as early as possible, and with our tests, they can confidently do so."
OVUM donates 20% of profits to fertility research and awareness campaigns.
