A fire that broke out in Redwood Valley on the first day of summer Wednesday was quickly contained and controlled with the help of aircraft.
The fire was first reported around 1:25 p.m. June 21, the Summer Solstice, and initial reports described a trailer on fire that spread to the surrounding vegetation.
Personnel from the Redwood Valley-Calpella Volunteer Fire Department and the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority responded, as well as Cal Fire, which had helicopters dropping water on the blaze.
By 2 p.m., the fire was declared under control after reaching about an acre in size.
