When planning a trip to a place you have never been, it is difficult to know where to go and how long to stay. Luckily, the internet is full of advice! While many of the itineraries vary as to the number of days to stay, they do agree on the places to visit:
Barcelona - The Barcelona City Guide says that when visiting this great city, one must at least see one of the great masterpieces of Gaudi: the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo or Parc Guell. But the football fans will go directly to visit the Camp Nou or to assist a FC Barcelona Match. Others will prefer to stroll in the historic districts of the city. For families with children, the Zoo, Poble Español ZOO or the Aquarium are preferred.
Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia
Madrid - Lonely Planet lists Madrid as having excellent art museums, phenomenal food, enormous parks and Europe's largest palace, but its inclusive atmosphere is what really makes the city soar.
Royal Palace of Madrid
Granada - Spain's Official Tourism Website locates Granada at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, between the rivers Darro and Genil, lies one of the most interesting cities in eastern Andalusia. As well as its impressive Al-Andalus heritage, there are Renaissance architectural gems and the most modern facilities, fit for the 21st century.
The Alhambra
Cordoba - Hotels.com indicates that Cordoba is famous for its interesting mix of ancient Roman, Moorish, and Spanish culture. Once the capital of El Andalus, the city's most iconic feature is the Mezquita-Catedral, an elegant mosque converted into a Renaissance-style church.
Mezquita Cathedral
Seville - The Seville City Guide states that when on a trip to Seville, you will see a diverse range of highlights, sights and tourist attractions. Such highlights and landmarks include the sightseeing of the historic city centre with Moorish influences, the royal palace Real Alcazar and the large cathedral with the Giralda tower. In addition, the famous Plaza de España, the green parks and the delicious tapas make Seville in Andalusia one of the most beautiful cities in Spain.
Metropol Parasol
Lisbon - Visit Lisboa indicates that if you're dreaming about your next trip to Europe, come and discover Lisbon, a historical city full of stories to tell, where the sun shines 290 days a year and the temperature rarely drops below 15C. A city where you feel safe wandering around day or night, where the cuisine is dedicated to creating over a thousand ways to cook the beloved bacalhau (salted cod).
Porto - Tripadvisor describes Porto as the town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name, Porto is Portugal's second-largest metropolis after Lisbon. Sometimes called Oporto, it's an age-old city that has one foot firmly in the industrial present. The old town, centered at Ribeira, was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 14th-century São Francisco church is a main attraction, as are the local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.
Torre dos Clérigos
No doubt there are many other places to visit in Spain and Portugal, but this gives us a good place to start.
