My youngest is a senior in high school this year. There have been a lot of bittersweet moments, many last times, knowing within the next couple weeks will be her last day of school, graduation, then on to college in the fall.
Over a month ago, we went to go prom dress shopping to see what the options were. Dress after dress she tried each one on looking at from many angles and some and others were, well, eh…so, so. Stacks were made of go backs, maybes and really likes. Much debating when one when determining the perfect fit, style and look, something that speaks to the personality too.
After all the pros and cons were looked upon, we made our way to the checkout to purchase the dress and nothing more. As I paid for the dress, I was delighted to see the dress rang up less than expected and was able to use a discount on top of that! The cashier carefully placed the plastic dress cover over the hanger and dress to keep it clean until prom day, and that's where it stayed until yesterday.
Last night, my daughter removed the dress from the protective plastic covering. She put it on after doing her hair and noticed something not quite right. On the slit of her dress, a security tag was still securely attached. I don't remember her words as they were sort of muffled as I was listening to a podcast with my earphones on. Wondering what the commotion was, I took them off to listen in and go see. She pointed it out and yes, you can say a bit taken back by finding out it wasn't removed when we purchased it at the store.
We had time, but not much, to plan, problem solve and figure it out. I wanted to save some time and see if a local retailer would be able to remove the security tag even though that's not where we purchased it from. I was hoping for a miracle and the possibility of taking care of this through the easiest route. I called; the young man checked with his manager. When he got back to me, he said unfortunately not-I tried. Next plan, attach fake flower to the bottom of the dress and cover it up. That might work if need be. More than anything, I think it made my daughter laugh a bit at the thought and sight of it! Next, I checked the store hours of the place where we purchased it from. Fortunately, they were open long enough to make the drive into town, have it removed and still have plenty of time to get herself ready.
Back home, in what seemed like record time--haha!! No, no speeding was involved, got to where we were going, dropped her off close to the door and I waited for her outside in the car. I think they were embarrassed by the fact an employ forgot to take the security tag off during our purchase. People make mistakes, I get it. We are human! Besides, it gave us something to laugh about and have a memory of after we problem solved and got it all figured out.
As her and her friend finished doing their hair, make up and putting on their dresses, I sat in the room downstairs enjoying the sounds of pure happiness! Their laughter and upbeat tone of their voice brought great joy to my heart! These are some of the best moments of my life! There is something special, so heartwarming that warms my heart, brightens my spirits, and makes my soul begin to dance to the vibrational energy that laughter brings.
The only other thing that caused things to go a bit tipsy turvy was the application of her nails. One of them decided to go missing, the smallest one of them all. Her and her friend were going on a nail hunt. I called out and asked if they needed me to help. No response as they were quite focused on trying to find it. A few minutes later her friend called out to her she found it! Thank goodness for that. I sort of had to laugh at this afterwards because while she was looking, I said she was looking too hard, it's probably right in front of her (which it sort of was).
Funny how life is, isn't it? There are things right before our eyes, but we fail to see them. Is it we are looking so hard that we are blinded to or not focused/fixed on the right things? Perhaps. The answer lay within us for we are one in the spirit. When we focus on and fix our gaze on Him, he will guide us along the way, bringing His peaceful presence and a reassurance He will help us through. There was no need to be stressed out. He has a plan in place. It is up to us to rest in His peace and trust everything will work out just as He planned.
I dropped them off just a bit later than anticipated. We had the opportunity to take a few quick pictures for memory's sake. They had the best time, a lot of fun! My heart was filled, so happy! They had a great time indeed at prom and spending more time with friends afterwards. I know they made the most of this moment in time, an opportunity to make memories, laugh, smile, be in the present moment and savor it all. Soon, this chapter will be closing and starting a fresh page in our book of life, hers, mine, and all of ours.
Ps....
Oh yeah, one more added thing. I suggested taking pictures to show as proof these things happened. My daughter told me there was no need for pictures because she will remember this for years to come! (I'm sure she will!)
I guess it's not all about pictures and capturing that moment with my phone or my camera lens, to look at them later on, but rather being in the present moment and enjoying it for what it is
