It begins quite simply - with a waddle on your knees on the garden grass
expeditions begin - hunting out the border flowers
and sounding out the bees and butterflies
sometimes - the butterflies tickle your nose
trips to the shops in your buggy - give you new perspectives
counting the clouds and birds in the sky
as mum and dad purchase the weekly shop
First venture out - is usually with school - to a park or an old house
(Usually the Rule)
Then trips out of the city, they seem miles away
as you land at a zoo, watching animals at play
Holiday time ? sees you sat on the coast
With you wrapped in your swimsuit - trying not to toast
Looking in rockpools for shellfish and snails
hoping for dolphins and maybe some whales
walking in fields and observing the cows
heading for castles in the here and now
First time abroad ? sees you sat in a bird
and you're watching the clouds - not saying a word
skies they seem different - and everything's new
and for two weeks there's plenty of fun things to do
you return with pictures - and for a bit you're a star
as you recall flamenco and the man with guitar
new locations - new islands - new things to enjoy
away from the tent you stayed in as a boy.
something less Spanish - something more Greek
enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes for a week
but as always with travel - you're pulled in by chance
by locals at the taverna to engage in a dance
