The Benicia High softball team defeated Alhambra 8-1 Thursday on the road for the Panthers' first league win.
The Panthers were led by sophomore pitcher Sinead Maas, who went the distance and gave up just six hits and two walks while striking out five batters in the win.
Ary Banks-Lockhart had a three-run homer for the Panthers, while Emma French had three hits including two doubles. Bre Gomez and Ava Rojas each had two hits including a double. Kyra Mason and Vanessa Smith each had hits as well for Benicia.
With the win the Panthers improved to 9-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League. The defending section champs will play next at Franklin in a nonleague contest. Benicia's next home game is Thursday against College Park.
