It's getting much cooler overnight and into the mornings here at the new "old homestead."
With the occasional overnight "frost warning", while not wanting to state the obvious, one kinda gets the sense the fall has arrived - which it has been for a while I guess. Fall leaf colour change is another pretty decent indicator that fall has arrived as well.
In Canada, Thanksgiving is in just over a week(October 10), and then within two and a half months, it will be Christmas. So, we're into that time of year where a good chunk of us dream of a family turkey dinner on a chilly fall afternoon, followed by turkey leftovers for the next four days?
All of this ignites a flame to think, "where has the time gone?"
Looking back through the calendar, we're coming up on 3 months now since we packed up and trekked halfway across the country to plant new roots here in Nova Scotia.
And as I sit here this Monday morning, one thought that comes to mind is, that even with these massive changes we as a family have gone through over these past few months - all the excitement of new challenges; the work and chaos of moving yourself and your stuff 1800km across the country meeting; new people; and just the simple and mundane things like switching provincial health cards, it is so easy to kind of fall backward in a way and "flat line."
"Flatlining" in the sense of falling back into routines that you saw as unhealthy and unproductive before moving. And also, those "routines" being reasons or one of the reasons to chuck it all and move across the country.
Now I get it that the last two to three weeks have caused the "apple cart" to be slightly overturned so to speak with both of us having COVID, followed immediately by Hurrican Fiona, but nevertheless, it is abundantly clear(at least for us/me) that "flatlining" seems to be our default mode.
All of this is to say, regardless of what we think or do, time will still fly by. It's soon to be three months here, and then it will be five months here and the Christmas season. Although we all presume we have "all the time in the world" - we actually don't.
Time doesn't stop for us or for anybody for that matter.
Time doesn't stop or slow down so we can get our shit together.
Not long after we landed here in Nova Scotia, I wrote a piece that took a wide look at "where are we in life" at any current time. A quote I used in the post centered on the idea that "we are where we are because we know what we want, but we don't allow ourselves to have it."
We "flatline" in life so to speak or fall back into those negative routines because in many ways we know what we want, but we don't allow ourselves to have it.
The reality is it's easy to stumble and "flatline" and simply exist. We need to be in a place where we ALLOW ourselves to have what we want or desire. We know what we want; we also know or should know that time doesn't wait for us.
So, what's holding us back, and/or what are we waiting for?
