Last week I got an email that a designer was needed for another My Happy Haven room makeover. I was so excited to volunteer, but immediately hit with the reality that this meant another woman had been diagnosed with cancer.
A few days later, I finally got to meet Jennifer in her home to learn more about her and her desires for her bedroom.
As I was listening to her story, surrounded by family photos, eclectic collectibles gathered through the years, and sprinkles of Halloween decor, I was hit again with the amazement of how resilient people are in hard circumstances. Of course Jennifer was sad and had cried many tears thinking about how her future would be different after treatment, but she commented about how you just keep going and find a way to push through.
A true inspiration.
After going through paperwork, we stepped inside Jennifer's room to get a feel for the space.
When meeting the client, I'm listening to any little nuggets they may give me regarding likes, dislikes, or inspiration. Jennifer's room was colorful and she once mentioned Junk Gypsies as being her favorite for decor. Just what I needed to hear!
Sources for Inspiration
After leaving Jennifer's home, my wheels are immediately turning on where to find the best items for her room. The first site I went to, of course, was Junk Gypsies. I scoured their site for items that would be the first domino to make the rest of the room fall into place.
As my search continues, here are the places I start when decorating any room in my home or others:
Inspiration Sources
1. Pinterest. For this room, I searched for 'eclectic bedroom decor' to get ideas for Jennifer's room. This gave me lots of ideas that would be good, but also helped me realize some of these included a more modern feel, and Jennifer specifically told me modern was not her style.
2. Favorite home decor sites. In this case, Anthro Living Home. The colors and style Jennifer already had in her home immediately reminded me of items you'd find at Anthropologie.
3. Look books. Browsing online look books offered on home decor websites are another great way I find ideas for rooms.
4. Instagram. Using keywords in an Instagram search has been another great way for me to find inspiration. Searching 'eclectic bedroom' gave me all sorts of ideas on the Explore page.
Where do you find inspiration for your home? I'd love to hear more ideas in the comments!
