Create a dark & vintage inspired bathroom with these design ideas & accessories
Guess who's back, back again, the One Room Challenge is back, tell a friend (sorry I needed a little intro music)!
Well, y'all we did it again, signed up for another season of the One Room Challenge.
If you have followed along with us for a while you know that occasionally, I like to get crazy & sign up for this 8 week room makeover challenge.
We have yet to do one in our new farmhouse & this round seemed like the perfect opportunity! Plus we have a really hideous space that needs tackling so I thought why not
If you are unfamiliar with the ORC, it is an 8 week room renovation/makeover challenge that a bunch of really talented bloggers, designers, & DIY-ers participate in. The goal is to completely transform one space within 8 weeks!
For this round we will be tackling a space that honestly I am shocked we haven't touched sooner, the half bathroom!
It has been completely untouched since we moved into our forever home a little over a year ago & definitely needs some attention.
The photos you are about to see might be disturbing for some audiences, myself included
I told you, it is not ideal...
The lime green is not really our jam & the tile isn't in great shape for starters.
This wallpaper will add a vintage element to the bathroom & keep the black from taking over the room.
Tile Floor
Ideally I would love to just rip this tile up & install a patterned tile with a dark grout...
But I am trying to keep this renovation in a budget, which we will talk about in a minute & if I can achieve a look I like with paint instead that will save me BIG time!
The plan will be to use the same Licorice black & a bright white to create a clean looking floor with a simple stenciled pattern.
The one above is real tile, but I think something like that would be simple enough to paint.
One piece toilets look a little sleeker & are so much easier to clean because they don't have all the round curves & crevices a regular toilet has.
I would also love to add a wooden toilet seat but that will have to be a last minute call depending on where the budget is.
The sink will also be replaced with this bathroom sink!
I had to order it in the Rose Gold option because the brushed gold is out of stock but, I think when I add a little rub & buff I will end up with the finish I want.
Lighting
To save money we are actually using this light that my mom gave me!
I would also love to add these vintage sconces around the mirror for a little accent lighting.
We don't have hardwired electricity here so I will probably have to use the LED puck light trick so that they function, unless I can convince Adam opening up the wall is a necessity...
Bathroom Hardware/Accessories
Home accessories are a huge part of any makeover, they button up the room & tie in all the design elements, even in the bathroom!
The mirror we will be using is also a second hand find that just needs a little rub & buff magic.
Its ornate & the perfect size for the space, follow along on Instagram to see its transformation!
The bar soap dish is one of the first things I purchased for the space & honestly it was a bit of a splurge as far as I'm concerned.
This is the toilet paper holder I am leaning towards, I really like that it has a spot to set my phone, because lets be honest we all take it in there
There is a matching towel holder but I am worried that will be too matchy matchy, what do y'all think?
Budget
Alright y'all my least favorite part of a project... the budget.
Before we take on any major/minor renovation I create a design board & a budget because it's best to know what you are getting into before you start.
It's also good to decide on your budget before you start the project so that you can know what you can splurge on, what you need to find a deal on, & what needs to DIY-ed or repurposed for the space.
So here we go:
My goal budget for this bathroom is to stay under $1,200.
Replacing the bathroom fixtures is where the majority of this budget will go but that has to be done.
Some prices I know for sure & some are estimated but this is what I think we are looking at...
