When I first read this quote by van Goethe, the thing that immediately popped into my head was this. Even though having all the knowledge in the world and a burning desire or willingness to act means absolutely nothing unless we actually put all of that into action - we need to do something.
There needs to be action.
The dictionary defines the word desire as, "a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen."
My experience gained over far too many decades suggests, that you can have all the desire in the universe; the strongest of feelings of wanting something; or wishing something to occur - but unless there is action on your part nothing happens.
All of us at some point or another have been in a situation where someone says(it may have been you who said it) - "we need to do something here." No one knows quite what to do exactly, but we all know that something needs to be done.
Sitting here typing away, another quote or phrase that fits well here is "wisdom is knowledge applied." Again, here is another excellent example of the need for "action or application" to move us from the state of "wanting and wishing" onto the fulfillment of those "wants and wishes."
We may know what we want our lives to be or look like a month, a year, or a decade from now. The life we desire to live for ourselves and our family. It may even be something far more simple along the lines of "I want; I wish: I have a desire" to be more creative.
All of these wants; wishes; desires, are nice but ultimately will never see the light of day unless there is some measure of action applied to them to get them moving along the road to becoming the reality in our lives.
There needs to be action.
We need to apply Newton's First Law of Motion here - "a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force."
Unless you do something - nothing changes.
--as always with love--
