FINAL SCORE: PIRATES 3 DIAMONDBACKS 0
WHY THE PIRATES WON: ANOTHER GREAT PITCHING DAY WITH ZACK THOMPSON GOING 5 INNINGS. WHY ONLY 5 INNINGS, ONLY THE SHELTON KNOWS. THE BULLPEN CONTINUED THE SHUT DOWN, AS THE DIAMONDBACKS COULD ONLY MUSTER 5 HITS, ALL SINGLES, AND NEVER GOT A RUNNER PASS 2ND BASE. THE PIRATES HAD JUST ENOUGH OFFENSE, WITH CAL MITCHELL GETTING HIS 1ST HOME RUN OF HIS CAREER. JACK SUWINSKI HAD A GREAT DAY AT THE PLATE GOING 3 FOR 4 WITH 2 DOUBLES AND A SINGLE.
KEY MOMENT OF THE GAME: WITH 1 OUT IN THE TOP OF THE 6TH SUWINSKI STOLE 3RD BASE AND WAS ABLE TO SCORE ON DIEGO CASTILLO'S LONG SACRIFICE FLY. IT WAS A GREAT MANUFACTURED RUN, THAT GAVE THE PIRATES A 2-0 CUSHION. THEY WERE ABLE TO SCORE AGAIN IN THE 7TH ON A 1 OUT RBI SINGLE BY KE'BRYAN HAYES. HE DOES MUCH BETTER WHEN THE BASES ARE NOT LOADED.
NEXT GAME: TUESDAY NIGHT, TIGERS IN PITTSBURGH. THE PIRATES BROUGHT UP TRAVIS SWAGGERTY BUT SENT DOWN RUDOLFO CASTRO, LEAVING YU CHANG ON THE TEAM, WHO IS 0 FOR 19 IN 2022. AGAIN, SOMETHING THAT CAN ONLY BE EXPLAINED BY THE PIRATE ANNOUNCERS. MAYBE MANAGEMENT WANTS MICHAEL PEREZ TO FEEL BETTER KNOWING THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE THE LOWEST BATTING AVERAGE ON THE TEAM. ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, IN A COMBINED 5 PLATE APPEARANCES PEREZ AND CHANG FAILED TO PUT A BALL IN PLAY, 4 STRIKE OUTS AND A WALK. THEY BOTH DESERVE TO BE IN THE MAJORS, NOT.
