Hello everyone and welcome to our new Looking At Insects series! This one should be a bit more regular than my last one but I will admit that a lot will not be specifically identified. It really is quite difficult to identify each species of insect since there are tens of thousands just here in the north. No book guides or online guides are complete to identify to the species level. However, I will do my best to get as many identified as possible.
So, today we start with the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. I have been trying to get a good picture of this one since I started with photography back in 2018. This one was by a lake sitting in wet sand soaking up some needed moisture. They are very similar to the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, but there are small differences, including size. The Eastern is larger and does not come this far north. The Canadian has a 4 inch (10 cm) wingspan. I hope you enjoy it! Have a great day and God bless!
