Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday! Well, yesterday turned out to be quite nice again and the sun was shining in the afternoon so it warmed up very nicely. But there were very few birds around all day. The evening grosbeaks did not show up at all, which was kind of strange, they usually show up even when they are nesting. Even the gulls only came early in the morning and once in the afternoon.
Sir Henry did not show up at all. The evening passed with no birds singing, but the nighthawks did come flying around just as it was getting dark. I always enjoy listening to their "buzzing" as they fly around looking for insects.
There were two goldfinches and a pine siskin around for a little while in the afternoon. Chickadees were here a couple of times but they did not stay long and I only saw the nuthatches once. The hairy woodpecker was not here at all, neither were the grackles. So odd for the birds to all disappear at the same time like that.
Only one chipmunk came around, that was Skamper. Also, Jasmine came twice and Chase came once, they were the only squirrels, and they did not stay long. It was just an odd day for some reason. We will see what will happen today.
Rain and thunderstorms are the forecast for the day so that will hamper bird sightings. And Muffin will not be impressed either. But it is supposed to stay warm at least, so that is nice. I have chosen some different photos of Jasmine for today, she does usually seem to like posing for the camera. Just before going to bed last night a loon flew overhead calling with its "laughing" call, it sounded so nice!
I just love listening to loons. Recordings of loon calls, no matter how good they are, just are not as good as the real thing. A real wilderness treat. I do miss living close to the lake where I heard the loons all the time. Wilderness beauty and wilderness solitude. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!
