A red flag warning in effect for California's Central Valley extends into the Bay Area, indicating heightened risk of wildfire through Friday evening, the National Weather Service says.
In the area shown in pink on the map above, gusty winds and low humidity are expected from 11 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday.
The zone covers the valley from north of Redding to Modesto, and the foothills up to 2,000 feet elevation. Solano County is included, as is the Stanislaus County portion of Henry Coe State Park, east of Morgan Hill.
Among the factors contributing to wildfire risk are winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph and daytime humidity of 5 to 12 percent, recovering to 20 to 35 percent overnight.
A red flag warning last month for much of the same area was the earliest on record for the Sacramento Valley.
The yellow zones on the map indicate a wind advisory from 11 p.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. or later on Friday.
For the North Bay's interior mountains and the hills of the East Bay and eastern Santa Clara County, the weather service forecasts north winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Though a red flag warning has not been declared for this area, the warning indicates "near-critical fire weather conditions."
