Thoroughly Thoreau
a poem found in Walden
Walden Pond
The sun arose,
throwing off its nightly clothing of mist.
Here and there, by degrees,
soft rippes or smooth reflecting surface
revealed itself.
Mists. like ghosts,
stealthily withdrew in every direction,
into the woods:
a breaking up
of the nocturnal conventicle.
A Philosopher's Wisdom
Live deliberately.
Front only the essential facts of life.
Learn what life has to teach.
Live deep.
Suck out all the marrow.
Love your life.
Coming To The Senses
Why should I feel lonely?
Is not our planet in the Milky Way?
I am on the alert for the first signs of spring...
A delicious evening:
the whole body is one sense,
and imbibes delight
through every pore.
I go and come
with a strange liberty
in Nature,
a part of herself.
Heaven is
under our feet
as well as
over our heads.
