MIDDLETOWN — Held to one hit for the second game in a row, the Middletown Mustangs fell 9-0 to the Clear Lake Cardinals in North Central League I softball action Friday afternoon in Middletown.

Winning pitcher Lilianna Cruz struck out 11 but did walk six as the Cardinals improved to 2-0 in league and 6-1 overall. The only hit the sophomore allowed was Gracie Wagner's single in the first inning. Losing pitcher Emma Hansen struck out 12 and walked three.

"Our line drives found the holes, their line drives found our gloves," Clear Lake head coach Scott Schaefers said. "Our girls played solid defense today and that was the difference in the game. Each of our outfielders had a nice play."

One of those web gems was a running catch in the left-center field gap by Clear Lake's Montana Wells, who robbed a Middletown player of a hit, perhaps for extra bases.

"It was a nice catch," Schaefers said.

Clear Lake opened the scoring with a five-run top of the second that was fueled by Middletown errors and two walks issued by Hansen, according to Schaefers. The Cardinals added another run in the third and three more in the sixth, two scoring on Hailee Bussard's double. Bussard (2-for-4) finished with three RBIs.

Amber Smart led the Cardinals with three hits, scored twice and knocked in a run. Cruz also had two hits.

Clear Lake is home Tuesday to play St. Helena while Middletown hosts Willits. Both games start at 4 p.m.

In other softball action Friday:

Kelseyville 11, Willits 4

At Willits, Debbie Pasalo went 4-for-4 and Cali Schnabl went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, part of a 19-hit Kelseyville attack, as the Knights beat the Willits Wolverines for their first league win and first win of the season.

"We had 19 hits, we showed up," Kelseyville head coach Julie Jackson said. "We were way more focused today."

Leading 2-1 through four inning, the Knights (1-2, 1-8) broke things wide open with a seven-run fifth inning, which was more than enough offense for winning pitcher Jayden Paulich.

"Jayden pitched lights out," Jackson said.

Paulich struck out seven and walked only one.

Audrey Pasalo and Anastasia Ray added three hits apiece in the win while Paulich and Ari Fossa each had two hits.

Schnabl, the Knights' second baseman, shined in the field as well as at the plate, according to Jackson.

"She had an all-around game good, she really played well," Jackson said.

The Knights are home twice next week. They host Fort Bragg on Tuesday and Middletown on Friday.

Fort Bragg 8, Lower Lake 0

At Fort Bragg, Timberwolf ace Cassiti Baroni missed a perfect game by the margin of a two-out walk to Lower Lake's Kyleigh Mock in the top of the fourth inning as the Fort Bragg Timberwolves no-hit the Trojans.

Baroni, a junior left-hander, fashioned her no-hitter around 16 strikeouts and the one walk. Neither team committed an error in a game that took only 95 minutes to complete.

Fort Bragg (2-0, 9-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the first and three times in the second for a 5-0 lead. The Timberwolves added three insurance runs in the sixth.

Jessica Hernandez went the distance for Lower Lake (0-3, 1-4), striking out one and walking four.

Lower Lake is home Tuesday to play Cloverdale.
