LOWER LAKE — Lower Lake High School varsity girls basketball head coach Shannon Tubbs pulled his team off the court midway through the fourth quarter Friday night during a home game with Fort Bragg, citing player safety concerns, and the Trojans forfeited to the Timberwolves in North Central League I action on the second-to-last day of the regular season.

Fort Bragg had a 40-31 lead with about four minutes remaining when Tubbs directed his players to leave the court.

"I pulled my players off the court for player safety reasons," the veteran Lower Lake coach said. "In the first half it was a little chippy between the two teams, but in the second half it was downright dirty basketball."

Tubbs said he didn't hold Fort Bragg responsible.

"I talked to their coach," he said. "They're headed to the playoffs and we still have one (league) game remaining, so there's no sense anyone getting hurt at this point."

Tubbs said he picked up a technical foul in the third quarter discussing the situation with an official.

"I said, 'You've lost control of this game, it's over,' " Tubbs said. "Once you lose control like that, you don't get it back."

Tubbs added his players were in complete agreement with his decision.

"I called a timeout before it happened (leaving the court) to talk it over with my players," Tubbs said. "I told them one more dirty play and we're walking off. It was a team decision."

Tubbs said another dust-up between a Lower Lake and a Fort Bragg player soon followed.

"I had seen enough. I just walked 'em off," Tubbs said.

Terilyn Jo Jermany had 16 points for Lower Lake (4-8 league, 6-14 overall) when the game ended. Tiahna Tubbs finished with seven points, including the Trojans' only 3-pointer. Margarita Cordova added five points.

Lower Lake plays Roseland University Prep in Santa Rosa on Saturday afternoon to close out its season. Junior varsity action tips off at 1 p.m.

Fort Bragg improved to 13-3 in league and 18-7 overall. The Timberwolves' next stop is the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs. They'll find out Sunday where they're seeded in the field and who and where they're playing in the first round, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Timberwolves won the junior varsity game 57-24. Aliana Barnes led Lower Lake with with nine points while Brooke Benson and Alyxa Milano each had five. The Trojans are 4-6 in league and 8-10 overall.
