Whilst out with the dogs the other day, the heavens opened and hail stones the size of golf balls fell to the earth.

I had no choice, I had to run for cover.

I picked up Rupert and ran. Luckily, our collie Ghillie, followed me and sheltered without me having to ask him, he can be a headless chicken sometimes but on this day I'm glad he followed.

Phoenix, our Kelpie, however, disappeared. There was nothing I could do but shout on her.

Thunder crashed overhead, lightning was flashing.

I waited for it to calm down then I walked back the way we had come. Towards home. Shouting on Phoenix the whole way.

She was huddled at the front door, looking sheepish. Knowing she shouldn't have ran off but also knowing she did a good job by going home.

I've never been so thankful not to have my children with me before.

I am covered in bruises from the hailstones. It is something I have never encountered before and I hope never do again.
