The Best DIY Toy Storage Solutions

DIY toy storage solutions that will keep your home clean, organized, & uncluttered

As a toddler boy mom I fully expect to step on legos on a regular basis.

I also find random toys "hidden" in the freezer, air vents, & dog food bin... Please tell me I'm not the only one😅

A lot of people will tell you to enjoy this mess because someday you'll miss it & I don't think that's 100% accurate.

For me I know I will miss the age where Eli wants me to sit & read with him, watch him color, & play Dinos on the floor, but the mess... No I won't miss that.

That's just not my personality, I am all about pulling out all the things to play with, but when we are done I need them to be at least somewhat put back.

For my own mental health I need Eli's toys to have a home, even if they don't make it there 100% of the time 😉

This might sound picky but I also want the toy storage to be functional & not be an eye sore... who says we can't have it all right?!

Today I thought I would share my favorite toy storage solutions with you in case you also love the play but want it put away too...

DIY Cube Storage Makeover: Under $20

Our latest living room renovation included giving our old cube storage unitalittle glow up & converting it into the perfect toy storage unit!
Hiding Eli's toys have never looked so good.

13" Cube Storage Bin - Coiled Rope Baskets - Woven Baskets

I love that each basket is somewhat organized into a category, this makes it easier for him to find exactly what he is looking for without having to search through the old giant bin they used to live in.

The best part is it doubles as a piece of furniture perfect for decor, adding extra light, & of course displaying one of my favorite photos of the two of us.

Easy DIY Book Storage

Lucky for me Eli is obsessed with books & we love reading to him.

Over the years the book storage solutions have gotten bigger & bigger as we collect more books.

Books are not something I really want hidden but I do like to have them organized & not in a cluttered mess.

His toddler room renovation included creating this sweet little reading corner with these DIY bookshelves to store all our favorite stories.

Wooden Book Storage

I DIY-ed this wooden book storage unit for Eli's nursery in the old house.

It was a simple way to keep his growing collection organized & I made it using just scrap wood, so win win!

Hammock Book Storage

This fun book storage hammock is perfect for your young reader.

It can be a great way to add a pop of color to the space or you could choose a fabric that blends in with the rooms general color scheme.

Outdoor Toy Storage

Storing outdoor toys can be tricky because they are more bulky than indoor toys...

For some of the toys we use the inside of this outdoor coffee table.

Originally it had a glass top, which shattered so we made this wooden top to fit over it instead.

Talk about a blessing in disguise because now it hides all the things!

This year we plan on tackling our main outdoor areas; creating a fire pit, small kitchen, & making over the deck.

When we tackle those projects I would also love to build a larger storage unit like this one for his bigger toys.

Playroom Storage Solutions

Playrooms are a great way to keep all the kid's toys in one place & if that room has a door you can be even less concerned with keeping things hidden😉

We don't currently have a playroom at the new house but when we built the one at my mom's house we wanted to design it so that it didn't look like Toys R Us threw up in it.

Something that makes after play clean up easy is to divide the playroom into sections.

Having a corner just for arts & crafts makes it easy for the kids to find everything they need to start creating masterpieces!

This fun & colorful rolling cart was a budget friendly find perfect for storing all the arts & crafts necessities.

Adding vinyl labels to the containers is simple with a Cricut machine or with stencils/regular stickers too.

All the best pretend attire is stored in this sweet little corner.

Using wall mounted baskets & hooks are a great way to store all kinds of dress up clothes, stuffed animals, or legos.

We use the hanging baskets to store all the smaller dress up accessories & masks.

These simple drawing displays are great for showing off & storing their masterpieces.

The clips make it easy to interchange artwork & store multiple pictures.
