The Benicia High School boys basketball team dropped a 76-71 thriller in double overtime on Saturday to Monte Vista of Danville.

The Panthers (17-7) were down all game but came back to tie with a last-second shot by Stephen Ransom to send the game to overtime.

Benicia's Jacob French hit a 3-pointer to put game into the second OT at 64-64.

Ransom finished with 29 points on 11-for-15 shooting and added 10 rebounds, four blocks and three steals for the Panthers. French had 14 points and five boards and Ryan Kirkbride had 10 points, nine boards, five assists and three steals.

Jake Fields had 18 points to lead Monte Vista (10-13).

Benicia is at Ygnacio Valley on Wednesday where it can clinch the Diablo Athletic League title outright.
