FORT BRAGG — Manny Acosta had so much fun hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation that he did it again in overtime Wednesday night as the Kelseyville Knights outlasted the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 55-50 in double-overtime at Fort Bragg.

The North Central League I varsity boys basketball thriller saw the victorious Knights rally from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

"We made some substitutions going into the fourth quarters and he was one of them," Kelseyville head coach Oscar Lopez said of Acosta, who finished the game with 12 points.

Acosta and Luke Watkins (14 points) both hit 3-pointers to fuel Kelseyville's fourth-quarter comeback. Trailing 40-37 with five seconds left, Acosta hit another trey from the wing.

"Right in front of our bench," Lopez said. "It just snapped the net. What a huge shot it was."

It almost was an instant replay in the first overtime with Fort Bragg leading 45-42 and time running out. Acosta struck again, launching his game-tying 3-pointer in front of the Timberwolf fans

Fort Bragg scored first in the second overtime but the lead didn't last long. Watkins buried a pair of 3-pointers to put Kelseyville (6-5 league, 10-10 overall) in front to stay, and Tyler Leary sealed the victory by hitting two late free throws.

Kelseyville's defense limited Fort Bragg to a combined 12 points between the fourth quarter and the two overtime periods.

Jake Keithly also finished in double digits for the Knights, scoring 10 points before fouling out in the first overtime. Leary replaced him and played well at both ends, according to Lopez.

But the game ball definitely went to Acosta, according to Lopez.

"I'm going to have to buy him dinner for that," Lopez said of his two game-saving 3-pointers.

The game against Fort Bragg was the Knights' second in a row and third in four days. They'll also play on the final three days of the regular season — Thursday night at Willits, Friday at home against St. Helena, and Saturday at home against Middletown.

Kelseyville also won the junior varsity contest, but with much less suspense than in the varsity game. Max Hommer and Ryder Leary each scored 16 points in a 56-42 win over the Timberwolves. Tyler Bryant added 12 points.

Clear Lake 72, Lower Lake 54

At Lakeport, first halves were Clear Lake's bane earlier in the season, but not lately. The Cardinals scored 43 points in the first two quarters to build a huge lead against Lower Lake and went on to post their fourth win in a row (and sixth victory in the last seven).

Clear Lake's four-game winning streak has come over a four-day stretch, and the Cardinals play a fifth straight game Thursday in Cloverdale to close out league play and the regular season. They'll find out on Sunday where they have been seeded in the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs, which open Tuesday.

"I think playing every day is helping us, it's getting us into a rhythm," Clear Lake head coach Mike Damiata said. "We're having really good first halves."

Clear Lake improved to 8-3 in league and 12-9 overall. A win over Cloverdale (12-1, 22-1) would certainly boost the Cardinals' stock at Sunday's at-large and seeding meeting.

"We have no pressure on us, we're not expected to win," Damiata said. "We can compete against these guys. Beating them would be a big feather in our caps. The guys are in a good mood, playing well and having fun."

Zane Robinson's 16 points led the Cardinals against Lower Lake (1-10, 1-18). Drake Smart and Ethan Maize both had 13.

"Drake played really well in the post," Damiata said. "He was physical and rebounded the ball well."

Robinson fueled the Cardinals' 43-23 first half, scoring 14 points in the first two quarters.

Jett Guralas' 23 points led the Trojans, who play their next two on the road, at St. Helena on Thursday and at Fort Bragg on Friday. They host Roseland University Prep on Saturday to close out the season. Marquis Jones added 15 points and Micah Gurule had nine.

Clear Lake also won the JV game, 54-36, behind 17 points from Graden Greer, 14 from Dayne Wilson and 12 from Vincente Ortega. The Cardinals outscored the Trojans 35-19 in the second half.

"I told them at halftime we can't let this team stick around," Clear Lake head coach Shady Cerezo said.

"The last couple of games we're starting to click a little bit," Cerezo said.

Clear Lake plays at Cloverdale on Thursday in its season finale.

"They ran us out of the gym the last time we played," Cerezo said. "We're hoping for a little payback."
