1656 Adanac is an example of non-market housing, built in 1986

The non-market housing inventory kept by the City of Vancouver recorded a total of 26,937 units spread over 526 sites. We obtained a spreadsheet of this data via FOI inquiry. This data is current as of February 2021. The original spreadsheet files are included in links further below.

Since the data was in a spreadsheet, we have created some maps to show the information visually. We think this data and information will be useful for many ongoing discussions about non-market housing in Vancouver and how to improve the situation.

Below is a map that shows the number of units per site. If you click on any of the markers, there's a full run down of the facility with the operator, full address, number of units, zoning, the year built and zoning. The colour range on this map is organized by ranges showing the number of units per site:

There was no non-market housing built between 1925 and 1953 in the City's inventory (or at least buildings in that range that are currently in use for non-market housing). This is why there are no entries for the decades 1930-1939 and 1940-1949. The colour range on the following map shows the decade the units were built in (Google Map link):

To show the distribution of non-market housing, here's a Google Map of the same data using only a single colour for each site:
