A woman died Wednesday morning after being struck by a train in Fairfield.

Her identity was not released by the Solano County Coroner's Office.

The tragedy occurred near the railroad tracks closest to Sunset Avenue and East Travis Boulevard, Fairfield police said.

Around 8:45 a.m., the woman was "trespassing on the tracks," an Amtrak spokeswoman advised.

The woman was struck and killed by Amtrak train 524, which was headed to Sacramento from San Jose.

"There were no injuries to the 50 passengers on board or crew members," a press statement read. "Passengers were delayed for 2 hours and 6 minutes and the incident contributed to additional train delays.

"The Amtrak Police Department is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident."

The matter remains under investigation.

The official advised caution around railroad tracks and crossings and said Amtrak works closely with Operation Lifesaver to communicate the dangers of grade crossings.
