Due to dry and warm conditions as well as recent fires, the U.S. Forest Service is enacting Stage 1 fire restrictions for forests along the Front Range.

Restrictions take effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

Restrictions apply to the Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests' Clear Creek, Boulder and Canyon Lakes ranger districts along with the Pawnee National Grassland, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

The Forest Service's announcement comes after Boulder County officials announced Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for unincorporated areas of western Boulder County.

Restrictions prohibit igniting, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire including fires fueled by charcoal or briquettes outside permanent metal or concrete fire pits or grates that the Forest Service has installed and maintained at its recreation sites. More information on what the restrictions prohibit is available on the U.S. Forest Service's website.

A violation of Stage 1 fire restrictions could result in a maximum fine of $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, prison for more than six months or both penalties, the release said. Anyone found responsible for causing a wildfire could be held accountable for suppression costs of the fire.
