In the past, I have tried the keto diet multiple times. The keto diet has always been the best fit for me the only problem was sticking to it. Except for this time. For the past 30 days, I have been doing keto yet again but this time around it felt so different. Both my mindset and symptoms. And this time I have decided instead of seeing how much I'll lose, I decided that I want to lose 100lbs. Drum roll please...

I have lost 12lbs in one month! I honestly can't believe it! I also lost a total of 7 inches. I'm so excited. So technically from my thyroid disease weight gain, I have lost 22lbs. I am 88lbs away from my 100lbs goal. These past 30 days have been so different. I found so many more helpful youtube channels and websites. I only cheated 6 times (2 movie popcorns, 2 Mcdonald's meals, and 2 orders of sushi). It was not a linear weight loss at all. I would consider it more of up and down. The first week was sort of easy. The second week was okay but I was beginning to get keto flu and it would get bad during the afternoon. The third week was keto flu and out-of-control cravings. I'm pretty sure all my cheat meals were during the third week. The fourth week I gave up diet soda and cut back on keto treats to help with the cravings plus the keto flu was gone. I would like to give out all of the "things" I went through during the month.

  • Discovered keto friendly artifical sweeteners and diet soda affect me than I realized.
  • I experienced keto flu and it was awful
  • I was able to eat more vegetables
  • I discovered some of my favorite foods such as chaffles, crispy skin salmon, and cabbage
  • I cooked way more than ever without worrying about cleaning
  • Meal prepping is so much easier now; when in doubt eat a protein and vegetable
  • I don't snack as much
  • My appetite has decreased
  • I drink way much more water
  • My ketone levels were perfect
  • Making sure I get adequate sleep really affects my weight
  • A little avocado oil goes a long way
  • I have so many keto recipes I want to try
  • The keto diet is short term but I will have to learn how to maintain my weight afterwards
  • I didn't exercise because of the keto flu
  • I lost weight in my hands which was weird.
  • I didn't feel depressed as much as normal
  • Keto forums can piss me off
  • Found at least two websites for recipes and 2 youtube channels to help me push through
  • Cheating isn't worth it
  • Just because it's keto doesn't mean I should eat it
  • I have so many things I want to try

I have to say I am truly surprised how much I don't want to give up. It was a bit rough some days like I wasn't sure I was going to keep it up but now that I've hit 30 days and lost 12 pounds I think I can do it.

Next month planning...To be honest, I'm really nervous about next month. This is the lowest weight I've been since pre-covid. I am worried that it'll stay the same or go up. I really hope I lost at least 3lbs. I will probably work out a bit more but nothing too drastic. Also, think I'm going to do OMAD (one meal a day) once a week and at least two days of pure clean keto. I also need to be careful with artificial sweeteners. I'm really nervous but I think as long as I increase my vegetables, drink more water, and watch my sweeteners and fats then I'll be fine. I will not be weighing myself a lot anymore since I discovered it affects my emotions too much. I know I'm not going to quit but will I lose weight? Fingers cross I can lose at least 3lbs.

How did I celebrate this weight loss? I actually bought a mini waffle maker and I bought stuff to make keto sushi and crab rangoons. The waffle maker will help (the one I have now is too big so I make too much).

My favorite youtube channels. Thomas DeLauer and the Keto Twins. Then for websites, I've used Wholesome Yum and Ruled.Me.

One thing I hated about this month was joining some forums and learning about how some people will try to medically panic people to quit. Troll, liars, shamers all in keto forums. I didn't realize that keto youtube channels have talked about these people but yes they are pretty awful to deal with. You'll think maybe they're trying to give good advice then next thing you know they're telling people they have ketoacidosis and should stop... But I've spoken to some people about what they do about those people. Ignore them or leave a comment to go look up the information. One example was a guy was asking if he could eat as much bacon as he want. Left him a video and his response was "how authoritative is he." Like come on, do your own research. One lady did not want to listen to how she had keto flu, refused it. Another person wrote and I quote "keto is dangerous." Or my favorite post, "I don't think I'm getting all the nutrients I need" when one of the symptoms of obesity is malnutrition. Like you're 100lbs overweight from not eating well and excessively eating. I also noticed a lot of people don't realize ketosis is an actual natural metabolic pathway. A lot of people don't want to hear about the science or information they just want to lose weight and these people are the dangerous ones. This is the one thing I hated the most about my keto diet. I probably will stay off those forums due to the fact that a lot of them are trolling, not all that serious about keto (wanting the quick weight loss), and liars. Actually what I may do is start a successful keto diet forum for people who have been on keto for more than 30 days. So we can keep out the trolls. Lesson learn. I like to look at people's success stories because it gives me hope. And I just need to look up recipes.

Overall I am happy with the past 30 days of the keto diet.
