TOMALES — After a scoreless first half, the goals came in bunches for the Upper Lake Cougars and Tomales Braves during a North Central League II boys soccer game Friday afternoon at Tomales.

Upper Lake (3-1-3 league, 4-5-4 overall) scored three goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to go up 3-0. A few minutes later Tomales answered with a three-goal outburst of its own.

"There's took about five minutes too," Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said.

Both teams had a handful of scoring chances down the stretch.

"It was a real fight back and forth," Santana said of the game's closing minutes although neither team could find the back of the net.

Upper Lake keeper Darian Loans Arrow stopped eight shots, including a penalty kick.

Angel Galindo scored twice for the Cougars and Kai Young had the other goal.

Upper Lake is in the thick of the NCL II race and plays its final three league games next week, including a Monday contest against Roseland Collegiate Prep in Santa Rosa.
