Two new coronavirus outbreaks were recently reported at assisted-living facilities in Boulder County.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment releases its COVID-19 outbreak data every Wednesday.

A coronavirus outbreak was determined Oct. 12 at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living in Longmont. The outbreak involved 18 resident cases and six staff cases, according to CDPHE data.

Holly Raymer, CEO of Hover Senior Living Community, said the COVID-19 infection at the facility began Oct. 7 when a new resident moved into Beatrice Hover.

"We had a new elder that moved in that was there a few days that started exhibiting symptoms," she said. "We immediately isolated all of the other elders that she had contact with."

Raymer said this is the first outbreak at Beatrice Hover since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

"That's because of consistent staffing, and we have four houses and all rooms are private rooms," she said. "It's really helped us stay ahead. It was like we were in our little bubble and our bubble burst."

All staff and residents at the facility are vaccinated, she said. They all had mild COVID-19 symptoms and are recovering now, she added.

"If they weren't vaccinated, it would have been a different story," she said.

The second outbreak was determined Oct. 13 at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville. It involved three resident cases and eight staff cases, according to CDPHE data.

Officials with the retirement center did not respond to requests for comment before publication Friday.

This is the fourth outbreak at the assisted-living facility. In addition, other COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported at the facility's individual living center, memory care center and at the Longmont location, according to state data.

The first outbreak at Balfour's assisted-living facility was determined March 31, 2020. It involved 12 residents cases, 18 staff cases and five resident deaths, according to CDPHE data. It was resolved June 22, 2020.

The second outbreak at the assisted-living facility was determined Nov. 10, 2020. It involved eight resident cases, 18 staff cases and one resident death, according to state data. It was resolved Feb. 3.

Balfour Retirement Community's third COVID-19 outbreak was determined May 3. It involved three staff cases and was later resolved, according to CDPHE data.
