Address: Bukit Batok West Ave 5 (Google Maps link)

Earlier in September 2021, missus and I brought the little one to the playground at Pavilion Circle which is on the edge of the newly built Bukit Gombak Park. We were aware then that there is also a playground within the park but didn't visit it as there wasn't enough time.

We are still keeping the little one away from school as Covid-19 continues to run rampant in Singapore with two to three thousand new cases detected per day. I have the duty of bringing our daughter out to allow missus to concentrate on her work. So I decided one late morning to bring her to the playground we missed the other time.

The playground's location is in the vicinity of apartment building block 394 in Bukit Batok West. First impression is that the playground is, like it's Pavilion Circle counterpart, a little minimalist. Of the really "playground-sy", this playground only has a slide and two swings. The slide is built into a slope. I had seen this design in Jubilee Park which is also a newly opened park. Seems like this is a new trend in playground design.

Slide built into the landscape.

We tried the slide with me as the human bobsled. Little one decided that it wasn't for her after one try. The slide was a little steep (see below) at the top so I tried my best to slow down the ride with my feet and calves. Little one still found it a bit too scary. I found it scary for a different reason: it felt scary hot and unkind to me as the human bobsled…. It was probably over 34 degrees Celsius when we were they. There isn't much shade there as well since the trees were quite sparsely planted and they haven't matured.

It's a lot steeper than what this picture shows…

Little one also didn't like the swings mainly because she didn't feel that safe as she's more used to those which have seats that are shaped like diapers. The seats here were just rubber flaps. So they're more for older and bigger kids.

Two swings not built in the age of Covid-19 social distancing.

So we ended up not really playing that much. Instead, we found a relatively shaded spot and had a picnic — mainly the picnic was for the little one as the snacks we brought along were all hers. Her favourite was Kiddylicious' banana soft biscotti.

Besides the impromptu picnic, the little one found a way to amuse herself to make the best of this excursion at this little installation below. She engaged it like a little toddler kungfu master in training cautiously stepping from one block to another holding on to my hands

See the similarities to the picture below?

That's all for my sharing for now. Stay healthy and safe.
