SAN JOSE – The Sharks' home contest against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday will mark the first time the NHL team has been allowed to host a game without capacity restrictions at SAP Center in over 18 months.

A Sharks spokesman said Monday afternoon that although it is difficult to predict how many spectators would be in the building, the team as of that point had issued about 10,000 tickets for the game. The building's seating capacity for hockey games is 17,562.

The last time the Sharks played a home game without capacity restrictions was March 8, 2020, when the team announced of crowd of 14,694 for a game with the Colorado Avalanche. The next day, Santa Clara County officials announced a ban on all mass gatherings in the county.

Last season, starting April 26, the Sharks allowed a few hundred fans in attendance for their final seven home games. Earlier that month, the California Department of Public Health announced it would allow indoor venues — including sports arenas — to host events with a limited amount of spectators.

At that time, the three California-based NHL teams were among the last in the U.S. to begin to allow fans into buildings.

Here's what fans need to know before they come to Tuesday's game.

Effective Sept. 20, as mandated by the San Jose City Council, anyone entering a city-owned facility aged 12 and older — where there are more than 50 attendees — must show proof of vaccination for COVID-19 upon entry.

Guests under 12 years of age, not yet eligible for vaccination, are not subject to the mandatory vaccination requirement for entry. They are also not required to provide a negative test result upon entry.

To avoid delays, fans coming to Tuesday's game are encouraged beforehand to create what's called a 'Health Pass Account' on the CLEAR mobile app to provide proof of full vaccination upon entry.

Those patrons who do not have a smartphone and/or access to the CLEAR app will be asked to produce and present their vaccination cards for entry into the venue. Pictures of vaccination cards on smartphones are not valid for entry.

Being fully vaccinated means it has been at least 14 days since obtaining either one dose of Janssen/Johnson & Johnson; or your second dose of Moderna or Pfizer. Guests who have not yet reached fully vaccinated status will not be permitted to enter SAP Center.

Per county regulations, all persons, regardless of vaccination status, must wear face coverings at all times when indoors except when they are performing an activity that cannot be done while wearing a face-covering (e.g., actively eating or drinking).

Bags must be no larger than 5.0″ x 9.0″ x 2.0" to be allowed in. Bags carrying items that are medical in nature such as prescription medication, breast pumps and other special medical equipment will be permitted, as will parenting bags that include diapers and other parenting necessities. These bags will be screened by an X-Ray machine and marked with a colored wristband.
