LOWER LAKE — Emma Hansen 's five kills and three blocks helped carry the Middletown Mustangs to a 25-8, 25-16, 25-14 victory over the Lower Lake Trojans in North Central League I varsity volleyball action on Monday night in Lower Lake.
Middletown (3-6) also beat Lower Lake (0-6) in three sets on Thursday in Middletown. Monday's match was rescheduled from Aug. 24 when the Trojans were unable to play because they were in COVID-19 quarantine.
Back-to-back victories after a 1-6 start for the Mustangs in league play was a welcome change of pace, according to head coach Vanessa Davis, who said she hopes the mini-winning streak gives her squad some momentum going into its final seven league matches.
"If we decrease mistakes and play aggressively, we'll do fine," Davis said. "It will help turn a corner for us."
Kamryn Atkins had four kills and an ace for Middletown, which hits the road Tuesday to play Fort Bragg (6-1). Becca Graham served four aces and had a kill, and Tori Tacla had a big night with 13 service points, six aces, four assists, two digs and a block.
Lower Lake statistics weren't reported.
Middletown's junior varsity squad won in two sets (scores not reported).

Kelseyville def. St. Helena
At Kelseyville, don't look now but the Kelseyville Knights are on a winning streak after beating the St. Helena Saints 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 in NCL I action.
Kelseyville (2-5) won its second straight after starting out 0-5 in league play. The Knights received a huge boost from Larue Furlani, who pounded out a team-best 11 kills.
"She's really playing well," Kelseyville head coach Donelle McCallister said. "She was jumping, hitting, everything."
Kaylei Davis added seven kills and Maddy Madrzyk had six.
"She had a lot of hard shots that kept them (Saints) busy," McCallister said of Davis.
Also for the Knights, Emily Sandoval finished with 12 assists and Jayden Paulich had 10.
St. Helena fell to 2-7 in league play.
"They've got a junior (outside hitter Ella White) who reminds me a lot of Maddy Densberger," McCallister said of the former Saints multi-sport great. "She's pretty damn good, serves a hell of a ball."
Kelseyville's scheduled match last week against league-leading Roseland University Prep of Santa Rosa was postponed because the Knights were in COVID-19 quarantine. That match has been rescheduled for Oct. 4 in Santa Rosa.
The Knights go for a third straight win Tuesday night in Lower Lake (0-6). They return home Thursday to play Fort Bragg. Kelseyville suited up only eight players against St. Helena because of injuries and may have only six for Thursday's home match against Fort Bragg for a variety of reasons, according to McCallister.
St. Helena beat Kelseyville 25-18, 20-25, 15-7 in the junior varsity match.
