A missing Montana man was found dead in the Pacific Ocean near Little River on the Mendocino Coast, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported.
According to the MCSO, rangers with the California State Parks Department were dispatched around 2:15 p.m. June 30 to a report of a missing person "who was last seen near the ocean at Van Damme State Park."
When rangers arrived at the park, they were notified by family members of Robert W. Frost, a 70-year-old resident of Hamilton, Mont., that he was missing, and "was last seen on the beach, near the edge of the Pacific Ocean."
When the State Parks personnel could not locate Frost in the immediate area, personnel with the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department were summoned to assist and began "searching the ocean with their Jet-Skis," according to the MCSO, which reports that "at approximately 3:35 p.m., Frost was located under the surface of the water near the 'outer reef,' which is around 3,000 feet southwest of the beach. Robert was quickly transported to Big River Beach, where the time of death was declared by a Deputy Sheriff-Coroner at 3:48 p.m."
The MCSO adds that "Frost's family members and legal next-of-kin were contacted and notified of his death," and that "there was nothing suspicious noted during this coroner's investigation that would be indicative of foul-play."
