In a tragic turn of events early Saturday morning, a high-speed vehicle crash on Sands Road, near Patuxent Mobile Estates in Lothian, resulted in the death of a young Maryland man and left three others with serious injuries. Authorities were called to the scene around 1:36 a.m., where they discovered a devastating scene involving a single vehicle, a 2012 Infiniti G37, which had collided with a utility pole and a tree.
The initial investigation by Southern District officers indicates the vehicle was heading northbound at a dangerously high rate of speed. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Andrew Moseley from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, lost control, causing the car to veer across the southbound lane, slam into a utility pole, and ultimately crash into a tree on the opposite side of the road.
Moseley, along with the front seat passenger, 20-year-old Briyanni Brooks of Suitland, Maryland, were rushed to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center with serious injuries. One of the backseat passengers, a 16-year-old female also from Suitland, was taken to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, suffering from serious injuries as well.
Tragically, the other backseat passenger, 23-year-old Mateo Green from Clinton, Maryland, was airlifted to University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
The accident has left the community in mourning, highlighting the grave consequences of high-speed driving. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the crash, and they urge anyone with information to come forward.
