Early on the morning of April 14, Charles County police swiftly apprehended a man after he posted multiple threats on social media about taking a firearm to a local church. The arrest took place in Waldorf, Maryland, after concerned citizens alerted authorities.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the incident began when patrol officers received a call around 7:56 a.m. from a concerned citizen reporting the threatening posts on social media. The threats targeted a church located on St. Peter's Church Road, where the suspect, Steven Michael Heizmann, suggested he planned to commit violence.
As the situation unfolded, Heizmann, 39, with no fixed address, continued to escalate his threats by going live on the social media platform. During the live broadcast, he made further alarming statements and indicated his willingness to break the law.
Officers, utilizing the live video, pinpointed Heizmann's location to an area on Old Washington Road in Waldorf. Upon arrival, they were able to locate him quickly. Although no firearm was found on Heizmann at the time of his arrest, subsequent investigations revealed that he had been inquiring about purchasing a gun from several individuals.
Heizmann was charged with making threats of mass violence and is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center. This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and the role of quick reporting in preventing potential acts of violence.
